Monthly Market Returns – November
01 December 2020

Equity markets were euphoric over November as a number of coronavirus vaccine potentials with high effective rates helped to support a risk-on environment. The FTSE World delivered a return of +10.1% over the month, the second double digit monthly return for 2020. Apart from April 2020 the only other double digit monthly return in the last 18 years was delivered in April 2009. YTD global equity returns in euro terms are now positive (+4.3%) as we enter the final month of the year. Looking back over the last 10 December returns only two of them have been negative (December 2015 and 2018). However, 2020 has taught us all to expect the unexpected.
Yield movements were more muted and mixed over the month. The German 10-year bond yield ended the month 0.05% higher at -0.57% p.a. whereas the US Treasury 10-year yield ended the month 0.02% lower at 0.84% p.a.
